The U.S. Information Office in Cluj, a constituent post of the American
Embassy in Bucharest, was opened in January 1994 as a symbol of improving
relations between Romania and the U.S. It was staffed on a temporary basis
until the arrival of Nathan Bluhm in July, 1994. Mr. Bluhm was replaced by
Carl Siebentritt in August, 1997.
The U.S. Information Office is able to provide some consular services to
U.S. citizens living in or transiting Transylvania. The Office can also
provide information and forms pertaining to non-immigrant visas for the
United States. However, the Office does NOT have the capability to issue
visas.
The Office also functions as a liaison point for commercial activities
involving the United States in the Transylvania region, including advocacy
and trade promotion activities. Cultural programs can be served as well
(e.g. the Kennedy Library, the Fulbright Program).
The U.S. Information Office also provides information and insight to the
American Embassy in Bucharest on political, economic, and social conditions
throughout Transylvania.
